10 things.
1. I think the book was better.
2. A film based in Japan should be made in Japan by Japanese. Hearing the stilted jap-accented anglo-speak was very very jarring...
3. Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeo and Gong Li rocks.
4. Gong Li has a great hairstylist. (EAT THAT DAVID GAN!)
5. As reported by film critics, the film does seem a little on the hasty side, flirting through the life of pre-WW2 Japan like a rollercoaster ride.
6. Does beauty stem from grace, or grace stem from beauty?
7. It is just sad to see the culture of a graceful civilisation mundanised and laughed at by other people.
8. The movie is very colour rich. Visually stunning would be an understatement. The world is brought to life by masterful filming and dramatic angles.
9. As a homage to a disappearing culture, it is a good exposition.
10. I still think the book is better.
